Celtic have done pretty well this year. The league and domestic trophies were always very likely but the highlight was getting to the playoff round in the Champions league and really giving Bayern Munich a go.
I haven't enjoyed a European campaign as much as that since the win over Barcelona in 2012.

@SaorUladh I think you did great in Europe. I wanted you to beat Bayern because I don't like Kompany. Also, the gap with Rangers is a chasm.

It was a funny game really. I felt like I should have been devastated by falling short like that but it was impossible to feel anything but pride that the lads went up against a club like that and gave as good as they got.
The Rangers situation is interesting. They haven't been doing themselves justice over the last few years. The gap seems to be huge but it's important that we don't become complacent. They have the potential to restructure and start competing again under the right leadership.
I saw Burnley have only conceded 15 league goals all season. That's crazy. Do you think that defence will hold up in the premier league?

@SaorUladh Trafford struggled in the prem last time but he is much better now. Our best defender is Esteve. He's a young Frenchman from Montpellier and is excellent. He's strong fast, good on the ball...
Our defense is what got us promotion. Obviously the premiership is such a huge gulf. What gives me hope is that Parker won't try to play Pep-ball against better teams... Luke Kompany did. Realistically, the three promoted teams are relegation favourites and this is the new normal.

The financial side of things really makes it difficult for any teams coming up. But, like you said, you have a better chance with a pragmatic manager. The fellas who insist on having their teams play like a Pep side against much tougher opposition are usually asking for trouble.
That's a bit similar to why it was so hard for Celtic in Europe for a long time. In the SPL, we're used to having all the possession and dictating the game. When we try that against top European sides, it usually ends very badly. Being able to adapt is crucial.

@SaorUladhTotally agree and good analogy.
Ange has also been found out in the Premiership. He was great for Celtoc, but just didn't know how to adapt. Much like Biesla at Leeds. The Premiership has superb foreign coaches, and if there is a flaw in your game plan, it gets exploited ruthlessly.
Come to mention it, Kompany will probably win the Bundesliga, but even they struggled in Europe against the elite teams, with respect to Celtic who are Premiership standard.

I felt bad for Ange initially. I wanted him to succeed after doing so well with us. But he's too stubborn. He doesn't have the team to play the football he wants to play. He's in a hole that he's dug for himself. Even if tottenham win the europa league, there will still be many people calling for him to go.
Biesla is a great example too. Everyone was so full of praise for him at the beginning because of the exciting attacking football. That's all good and well, but it loses its shine when you take a few batterings from teams that know how to exploit your weaknesses.
Yeah I don't think much of Kompany either. The only praise I have for him is that he hasn't failed to win the league like they did last season. They haven't covered themselves in glory with some of their champions league performances.

@SaorUladh I don't want to be too harsh on Kompany because (like Ange) he is good at what he does. We got over a hundred points in the Championship in that first season. It was statistically one of the best seasons ever by any side in that league, and nobody could get the ball off us. It wasn't all his fault we got relegated. We lost two excellent loan players (Tella and Madsen, now at Leverkusen and Villa, respectively). The recruitment department also did a poor job in that window, but few Burnley fans were sad to see Kompany go. The players were also pissed off with him too, Some key players from the title winning team were never given a chance and those that did got sick of his constant bollockings as he blamed them for the situation.
For our situation, Parker is a better fit. By all accounts, he is really hardworking and a nice guy. We had doubts as to whether a London boy would care much about Burnley, but he knows this is his last chance to make it as a Premier League manager, and his energy motivates the players.
I know Celtic fans have a love-hate relationship with Rogers, but it does seem to be working. At every club he's been at, he's done a good job for the first 2-3 years. Who knows, you might see eventually see Ange back at Celtic Park?
