I'm proud of the boys.

They lost but played very well and dominated most of the game against a very good France team. It was one hell of a game but sadly not to be. France did what they needed to in big moments and they go through. I think they will win the World Cup now.
Abstraction · 61-69, M
England looked the better side all day to me. It was like two bulls fighting, England looked stronger but France had the pointier horns for scoring.
I'm hoping for Croatia or Morocco now. Like to see same old teams be moved aside by the hopeful teams.
I really try to get into this game but it frustrates me no end. Along with best player awards they should give out an Academy Award. Tired of watching players dive, roll around on the ground in 'agony', lying there dying and getting medics out for someone brushing their sleeve. Seriously, get up you lame wankers. So many games and even a world cup final (Germany in the 1990s I think it was) decided because of dives or dreadful decisions. For someone to enjoy it you have to be able to rationalise this rubbish and call it 'gamesmanship'. I've been unable to do that. It's rare in Australian rules, rugby or American football for a game to be decided on a single decision as it is here. Otherwise it's briliant to watch.

@Abstraction It's the same here in our more physical sports. If you get hurt in rugby you don't let the other guy think that they did. You hide the pain. All your teammates would lose respect for you if you rolled around. I do think Englan played well and it's nice that some neutrals agree so that I don't look completely biased.

We just need a sharper horn!
Dominated is a stretch but they were the better side for large periods. I don’t think they created many clear cut chances and the few they got were from French ineptitude (2 pens and a free kick)
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@BeefySenpie He man. I'm not looking to argue. I'm just gutted right now, as we all are over here.
@Burnley123 I didn’t think you were
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
MartinII · 70-79, M
They played pretty well but created few clear cut chances and the central defence always looked vulnerable. The substitutions destroyed England’s rhythm, and Sterling was worse than useless. I’m glad, of course, that the underrated Giroud scored the winning goal. To think that Arsenal preferred Lacazette!

The pundits were very critical of the referee, I think correctly. Strange, because the refereeing in all the other games I have seen has been excellent.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@MartinII We didn't create loads of chances but neither did they. You are never going to get than in big games.
We created enough though and Lloris had to be at his best. I think we also defended very well against Mbappe, who had his least effective game so far.

I think France will win the cup and that will be their toughest game.
@MartinII Taking Saka off was a brainless choice after he looked dangerous and won free kicks all game long

Refereeing in Dutch Argy game was dodgy too
MartinII · 70-79, M
@BeefySenpie Yes, it was a ridiculous decision unless he was feeling the effects of the many fouls, some not given, that he suffered. I didn’t see the Dutch game.
I swear Giroud looks like the guy who’s been taking care of my kid after school 😅
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@BloviatingBuffoon Tell him that he's banned from England! 😝
windinhishair · 61-69, M
Who do you think will be in the Final?
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@windinhishair They are because (not unreasonably) they were expecting to win the trophy.

If the World Cup was a league competition like the Premier League with 38 games and no play-off: Brazil would win it, France would finish second and England would maybe finish third or fourth. In knockout football, it's all about big moments going for or against you. You can't recover from a shock defeat and luck really does come into it. The Brazil team of 82 and the dutch team of 74 were inarguably two of the greatest national teams of all time but neither won the trophy because things went against them in one big match. What makes the World Cup so great is also what makes it so brutal.
windinhishair · 61-69, M
@Burnley123 And that is precisely what makes it exciting. An inferior team that would lose 9 times out of 10 to a superior one can win on the given day.

I'm not a fan of the shootout, but you can't keep playing forever.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@windinhishair Agreed.
CassandraSissy · 26-30, TVIP
I believe that the game hung on a couple of very controversial ref decisions. That level of sheer.....ignorance...I don't think I've ever seen before.

It's sad, My other half has been saying Griesman has been the star player since the very start of this tournament - very under-the-radar, but everything happens from him - so he see's them in the final.

May I be so bold as to say that, since I have picked Argentina in the work's thing, I stand to win £50 if they win....

Yep, Cassandra can be bought for a very nominal price!

So...sad for England....but c'mon Argentina!

😜
The cake crook'd brits lost to the snail sluppering frogs again, this calls for a spot of tea
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@checkoutanytime Dude, piss off and munch your donut!
deadgerbil · 22-25

@BernieDeVulva We were unlucky and FIFA is corrupt at the top tier but I really don't see a cost benefit analysis of this conspiracy

Var did give us two penalties.. they were deserved but hey.

@BernieDeVulva I think Morrocco massively over-achieving and failing to get their fifth consecutive miracle will stop them. Lolz
England done well and got a bit unlucky.
ReneeT · 61-69, M
I think it's going to be France v Argentina in the final. This is going to be something to watch. I was pulling fur England and they did give it a good run
It was always going to be tough beating France. They played so well and i am so sad for Harry but the didn't do anything wrong
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@InOtterWords I do feel sorry for him. He's such a good player for us and a nice guy too.

I would like to officially forgive him for scoring a hat trick at Turf Moor.
@InOtterWords Yeah, the dude looked shattered and is usually great on pens
GeistInTheMachine · 31-35, M
This is more depressing than Dunkirk.
Was like watching Palace 🥲
caesar7 · 61-69, M
I wouldn't want to be Kane when the game ended. That was devastating to watch when he missed that penalty kick.
caesar7 · 61-69, M
@Burnley123 I am sure he will! I bet he wishes he could take that one again. Man, I felt for him afterward.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@caesar7 Paradoxically because the game is so low scoring, this game is often more dramatic and also cruel. One goal matters so much.
caesar7 · 61-69, M
@Burnley123 Yes, very true.

That's what happens when you sack the best coach England have had in 20 years.

Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@MethDozer You used black in the first pic Stay away from engineering stuff and dont give up the day job!
GeistInTheMachine · 31-35, M
@MethDozer I agree. Fuck the French.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@GeistInTheMachine Oh..it's an F (kind of maybe a bit) and then shows the French flag in the the wring colour and when you turn your phone. This upsets me.
swirlie · 31-35, F
You are proud of the boys? Sounds more like a secret message you are sending to the 'proud boys'... I must take some time to decipher your message now, possibly warn the authorities of another impending attack.

"They lost but played very well and dominated most of the game... France did what they needed to in big moments and they go through..". This all sounds very suspicious to me, so you might get a little visit from men in black who wear sunglasses indoors, just sayin'... 🤷‍♀️
swirlie · 31-35, F
@Burnley123
Trolling? How dare you, Burnley! I call it investigative observation.
swirlie · 31-35, F
@InOtterWords
What the hell are blinkers?
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@InOtterWords I blocked her because its just ridiculous. 😂
MethDozer · M
Just let me say I'm sure these fine anglophonic men gave it their all but I'm both condolences and disappointment that they let France win.
GeistInTheMachine · 31-35, M
@MethDozer Me too, man.

Me too.

The fucking French.
