Portugal is a better team without Ronaldo.

Not just because of the soap-opera baggage but because he is past his best as a top-level player. He doesn't press, doesn't create goals and there are other players who can finish chances. I'm glad that the Portuguese coach has finally come to the same realisation as Erik Ten Haag. Portugal has gone from a quarter-final-standard team to dark-horse contenders to win the WC precisely because they have dropped their ageing prima-donna.

He looked woefully slow and off the pace when he came on last night.

When his replacement goes for a hat trick. That's a pretty clear passing of the torch.

Did he end up scoring?

@Northwest Portugal won 6-1. Ronaldo's replacement in the team scored three of them. Ronaldo came off the bench late on and contributed nothing. The game could not be a starker illustration of my point.

@Burnley123 Ramos was on his game in the match against Switzerland. We won't hear the last of him I think.
