World Cup upsets

Belgium out
Germany out
France defeated; Japan and Morocco topping their groups
How about a Japanese team winning the World Cup?
How great would that be?

I want to see the USA win, playing the final against England and scoring at the last penality kick 🍿🥲

Only because that'll be the ultimate event that would make me think we've really entered a different timeline

Plus imagine the Americans boasting about kicking our European a$$es at a game they don't even generally give a f*ck about

Actually I'm no longer sure I want that 🥴
Elessar · 26-30, M
@LizOwen Neither was Italy when it won the Euro, in the very same way, playing the final against them one year ago lol
LizOwen · 41-45, F
@Elessar They still won fair and square- good point!

@Elessar
at a game they don't even generally give a f*ck about

That's because it interfered with all the traditional college/pro football games, over the Thanksgiving holidays.

I think we will be eliminated quickly. I did not know there was a word cup, until our women's team started winning it.

I'm still not upset about Japan getting this far though.
People in the west just seriously underestimate these players. But some of them played in the Belgian league and they were just solid. It's not world class, but really solid players. And Kamada, top scorer playing at Eintracht Frankfurt, was a Kanarie.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO KANARIES 🐣

@Kwek00 Not upset at Japan doing well - the whole upset is to the established teams. All credit to Japan and it would be great to see them go all the way.
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@LizOwen Yeah, that would be great.... but I don't think they have the quality for that.

But I do think Japan Croatia is a game to look forward too. I think it's a coin flip, both teams play solid football at times. In overall, they come short to a team like Spain, France, Brazil, Portugal and England though. I think one of those 5 is going to reach the end stage. And I think Spain & Brazil are the biggest contenders from what we have seen so far.
LizOwen · 41-45, F
@Kwek00 I had thought Spain until their latest game when they looked unimaginative. Brazil are not the Brazil of old and England laboured against the USA. I think the tournament is open.
Gangstress · 41-45, F
The problem is. The European teams dont know about world football. When would they ever play an asian team. When would they play an eastern team? They will struggle in the world cup for that. Its a different world when its not just european based
helsbels · 31-35, F
@Gangstress A lot of players from those teams play in European leagues though, I think I heard rightly that in Japan - Germany, 8 Japanese players come from teams in the German league? So these smaller countries improve and get the benefit of these players experience and everyone moves a lot closer in ability and playing style.
Gangstress · 41-45, F
@helsbels when they arrive to play in Europe they have to adopt that style regardless of their own.
Gangstress · 41-45, F
@LizOwen i used to play semi professional
I would love that to happen!
So I can tell my hubby, it’s a sign to go to Japan!!!!!!!!!!
wonkywinky · 51-55, M
I would love that.Japan is just about the most racially homogenous nations in the world.
I must be honest, when watching Germany i couldnt often tell if it was one of the african countries or not.
LizOwen · 41-45, F
@wonkywinky The present German team is not a patch on the earlier teams. No class and little skill; inferior players, whatever colour they may be.
vorian · 51-55, M
Spain were actually out for 3 minutes last night...when costa rica went in front. Only the german equalising got spain back in. Awesome games the last couple nights.
GLITTER · 36-40, F
Japan’s second goal was clearly over the line
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
It would be great but I can't see it.
Tres13 · 51-55, M
caesar7 · 61-69, M
Would be a first, wouldn't it?
LizOwen · 41-45, F
@caesar7 It would open up the sport
