FIFA and the Red Flag Ruling

The entire incident (up to the now infamous phone call) is questionable but questions happen in soccer rulings - in most any type of sport for that matter.

The part were Trump called FIFA President Gianni Infantino to request a review is where the somewhat questionable call turns into an international scandal.

Minus that call we would not be where we are. It was horrible judgement on trump's part (no surprise there) to make the call and just as horrible judgment for Infantino to not refuse the call.

For Infantino to say there was no pressure is bull... pure and simple.

Still, we will never know the truth of the matter.

So, here we are and I hope the better team wins, but to be honest, the U.S. should simply back out of the games and on international media explain why they did so. Alternatively, as mindfulness suggested, Balogun can sit out the match.

Honor is more important than any game.

I think what happened is disgusting. Infantino should step down, Trump should be in prison anyway.
I don't, however, think the USA team should be punished for the actions of two corrupt individuals.
But, in the interests of fairplay, and to highlight the dishonest actions of Trump and Infantino, I think it would be an admirable action by the team manager not to pick Balogun in the match day squad.

@Mindfulness that too is a great option... fair and sends a strong signal while letting the best team win. Actually I'm going to add your thought to the post - thank you.
That made sure the Americans lost, as was the right thing to do.

And now the US is on their way to losing tonight.

Everything trump touches dies.
Should be a ban.

But Balogun has a card too!

tRump & FIFA: corrupt birds of a feather. SAD!

Backing out of the games?! I just couldn't see being so unfair to the team. None of this is their fault. Though I agree with you that the telephone call was an awful move.

@Poppies I get it, but when it comes to honor and you represent something bigger than your team, honor is always the choice - or it should be.
@Ontheroad And heart-breakingly rare.

@Mamapolo2016 and honestly, every team member could walk away heads held high in knowing they did the right thing.
