Because Italy thought they were in a wrestling match.

@NerdyPotato As if they were any easier on us. Jorginho almost out and Chiesa (arguably our best chance for scoring the second point before the end of the E.T.) out due to contacts. Maybe I'm biased but I haven't seen a stark distinction in this regards, between the two teams.

Last but not least, I wouldn't definitely relegate the outcome of the match to this.
@Elessar but did they try to break any of your players' legs or choke any of your players with their shirt?

@NerdyPotato That happened at what, 1st extra time? The two incidents I mentioned had already occurred by then, and at the end of the game the English didn't have to send out anyone due to an ET being played more aggressively (unlike Chiesa for us).

So really, I don't really see how *that* would be the reason for the English to have lost a game that ended on pens.

@NerdyPotato didnt the English people say "it doesn't matter how we win only the result will count" BIG BURN
@Elessar maybe it wasn't the main reason, but it was painful to watch and had nothing to do with football.

@NerdyPotato Okay, then yeah we're in agreement. But so was the controversial pen they've gotten against Denmark, lasering goalkeeper eyes, booing anthems and the at least 4 different attempts by Sterling at diving in our penalty box in order to try to replicate that.
@IloveJ They might think twice before counting their chickens before the eggs hatch next time!!! 🤣
