Cigarette smoke contains a myriad of carcinogenic (= cancer-causing) substances, especially polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). These are produced during incomplete combustion of tobacco. The worst of those may be Benzo[a]pyrene. None of those substances is contained in the aerosol which is inhaled by the vape user.
Cigarettes are much much more dangerous – there's simply no question about that. It's settled. 😑

@helenS Agreed. Nicotine, even with the safest delivery system, is not good for your arteries, but your life expectancy isn't reduced as much as by smoking.
@rolex928 I think you've gotta ask yourself: is the nicotine high really worth all the trouble? I guess if you're already addicted, you've got to decide how to manage the addiction, but if you're not addicted, it's a high price to pay for a feeling that's not much better than caffeine.

@helenS better ask my grandson he quit cigaretts and started vaping later he was coughing up blood went to hospital they determined he had what is called pop corn lungs from vaping . both cigarettes and vapes are dangerous its sort of what would you rather be bit by a rattle snake or a copperhead .
