Is anyone else trying to quit smoking for the new year?

I’m planning on attempting to quit again as my New Year’s resolution, but I’m pretty nervous 😬

If you are planning to smoke your usual way and then quit cold turkey January 1st Here's the new years resolution you are signing up for:

- You have to endure at least [c=BF0000]15 minutes [/c]of a craving before it fades off. If you smoke 10 cigarettes a day that means 15 x10 minutes of endurance. For [c=005E2F]1[/c] day. So you will have to repeat this every day. No failure.

While feeling like absolute crap. And if you go cold turkey. Here's the list of symptoms.

- You might get head ache, nausea, yoget mood swings, impatient, irritated, feel extremely fatigued and energy-less, you might lose or gain appetite, insomnia, restless syndromes in your legs etc, you might get stomach cramps, aches and cold sweat and puke and shake and feel really sick.

My dad quit cold turkey. He puked cold sweat and shaked with aches and pain and was really really sick for three days. He felt like he was dying , but he endured through those three days and after that , he was no longer addicted to cigarettes and never had a cigarette since. This is a very brutal detoxing.

There's a milder approach that I think most people should do. And that is dosing down and include setbacks for a set period of time.

For example. My boyfriend reduced down to two cigarettes a couple of weeks before he could reduce down to 1 and finally to 0. He gave himself a certain time frame that also allowed setbacks. Let's say two months. So if we had a fight one day or there was some horrible news or he was having a breakdown, he could smoke 1 cigarette and still be holding his promise to himself and not have failed himself.
Which is the most important part

The worst you can do is sign up for something you realistically isn't equipped to handle. And fail yourself and your promise to yourself.

The best is to adapt the process to the time and endurance level you know for 100% you will manage. And go from there. From one small success to the next til you reach the big one.

If you feel nervous I think you have aimed a goal higher than you realistically are capable of succeeding.

Just food for thought.

@kylee1992 Also a my boyfriend ate carrots every time he had a craving 😂
I even made a painting of him holding a carrot to honor his willpower 😂

@kylee1992 He liked to hold something instead of a cigarette and to taste something

@kylee1992 But yeah the cold turkey symptoms can be awful, you're detoxing your body similar way drug addicts do in rehab. Your body will react.
