Up in smoke

I have never smoked and yet when I met my ex, I naively thought that love conquered all and maybe, just maybe, I'd be able to encourage him to give up. It never worked of course and so I lived with someone who refused go outside for a puff, and sat on the sofa with swirls of smoke above his head as I sulked to another room to do some work. Now my home is smoke free (many years later) and I never allow anyone who visits to light up, and it’s always funny to me in seeing the look on their faces as though I have scolded them.
