Have you ever needed to take Tylenol or Advil daily for weeks?

This nearing a month I've had to take Tylenol or Advil for tooth pain😞 I've seen two dentists and X-rays and there's no cracks. It's sore daily from one night I must've clenched harder than usual. I've had TMJ and been a night clencher for twenty years , and while I've experienced pains often enough near my jaw, I've never had a tooth become this sore for weeks. I'm just getting concerned about using these pain meds every day. They're not narcotics but I think long term use can affect your stomach lining. I just hope by next week the pain levels diminishe. Have you ever taken these meds for weeks? (Generally it's just one dose a day, but occasionally , two)

I had an issue like this a few months ago from clenching, it took a while to resolve, the dentist said the clenching caused periodontal ligament inflammation, I felt pressure, pain and sensitivity in all my teeth because the nerve fibers inside the tooth were irritated. Medication didn't help much, a warm compress to relax the jaw and being aware of clenching during the night, I would constantly wake up to stop clenching and relax my jaw, it took nearly two months.

@Sutten Yes luckily no cracks, so I believe it's just a lot of pressure I had one night on two specific teeth, they feel very sore, and for a few hours a day, quite painful. I'm sorry you also clench. I've been going to bed at kike 4 am just to not clench. And then yes I've set my alarm to wake up so I stop clenching. Did you get searing pain once a day , everyday? I typically have to take ibuprofen because I just can't take it anymore. And the pain really hasn't decreased each day, for weeks. The endodontist didn't give me any idea what else to take, he said he thinks it should start to decrease pain soon.

Do you have a night guard? I need to get one, I've avoided it because the fitting was horrible and painful last time.

@Baybreeze I'm sorry to hear. I haven't had daily pain. I do sleep with a bite plate/ night guard. The fitting was uncomfortable for those few minutes but I'm glad I had it done. I have seen some relaxation techniques online that I have tried and I try to sleep with my top and bottom teeth apart, sometimes they do meet and when I wake up, I keep trying in the hopes it becomes a habit to decrease clenching/grinding. I hope you recover soon. I know it's painful; mine had me going to the doctor many times for ear infection pain, but it was the clenching hurting my jaw and extending into my ear, never ear related.

I was on heavy doses of Ibuprofen for 10 years. It's a wonder I have any kidney function left.

@Baybreeze It’s only a problem is you drink and smoke and exceed the daily limit. Should only be taken under the care of a doctor.
Baybreeze · 41-45, F
@Muthafukajones 800 mg is safe and a prescription strength, but after that would probably be too high. It finally kicked in though, ugh .it was bad pain and after two hours it's working. Weird it typically works in one hour, I'm just so grateful it did.
@Baybreeze It was for intense pain. I talked with many doctors about it, and several alternative medical people. I paid thousands in treatments. Nothing helped but time.

i rarely take pills even when i have killer migraines i forget pills exist and my hub has to remind me i just wasn't raised on meds so i rarely think of them

There should be a local number for you to talk to a nurse or pharmacist 24 hours a day. They can advise you about maximum dosing. It’s important not to exceed as there can be serious side effects! Follow up with the doctor tomorrow if you don’t find the number tonight.

have you tried wearing a bite guard?
Baybreeze · 41-45, F
@wildbill83 I had one years ago it was so pricey and it was horrible getting fitted for it. But I'll be getting a splint for yet another issue soon, a misaligned jaw, so hopefully that'll help it a bit for less pressure on my teeth

Daily for.a week yes. Multiple weeks no. I didn't have a problem.

If you take both at the same time ( 1000 mg Tylenol and 400 mg Advil ) it’s as effective as a narcotic . You can re-dose every 6 hours for a couple of days. Chronic Tylenol use will damage the liver

ABBA as I come before you I pray for the one known as Baybreeze your child Lord.

I Bind the Spirit of Infirmities according to Matthew 18:18 and Loose the Healing Spirit.
We choose to uproot every root from our lives and Plant the Seeds of the Word that keeps us free.
In Jesus mighty name I pray.
