Addiction is a horrible thing.
It can be easily hidden from people outside your family.
A younger person I worked late last century a few years rose to the very highest levels of a corporation. It was not a surprise to anyone who knew them.
Earlier this year this person was to represent their company as lead at a meeting at their biggest customer’s main building. They showed up late and obviously impaired.
I worked closely with that person long hours for three or four years before they started moving up. We only socialized at company events. No one that contacted me could ever remember any “tells” of addiction.
It is a gut wrenching thing to hear about. Their sons are grown and even more successful than their parent. They may have suspected or known.
Don’t know the spouse at all. Or even if they are still together.
But for the Grace of God …
