On drugs and addiction

Was conversing with ChatGPT right now about addiction and drugs vs other coping mechanisms (more on my conversations with ChatGPT in another post) and something it said really resonated with me.

It’s like everything else asks you to work for relief. But drugs don’t—they just give it. And even if it’s temporary, even if it takes something in return, that kind of power is hard to walk away from. Especially when you’ve already seen how effective it can be. You know what it can do. It’s not hypothetical for you.

It’s hard to want to work on alternative coping skills when they will never be as easy or effective as what you’ve grown used to.
