I'm an ex-smoker who grew up in a family of smokers. Glad I gave it up.
FreeSpirit1 · 51-55, F
My Mom was a heavy smoker , grew up with it.
It’s not a pleasant smell for sure.

I see you're from UK. Smoking has all but been banned entirely in public places in Canada, which means smoking is not permitted in any government building or even outside on government property. Smoking is also banned in all restaurants AND bars, pubs, dance clubs AND even outdoor cafes.
Smoking is also banned in a taxi cabs, on all city busses, within all bus shelters at bus stops and all subways (the tube) including the tube station itself anywhere in Canada.
The best news is, smoking is BANNED in all private personal vehicles if a child under 18 years of age is present in the car.
For me to read your post about being in the presence of cigarette smoke has become so extremely foreign to me that I've actually forgotten what it was like to be around those who actually buy cigarettes. I can't believe that of all the things that people protest against in the USA and UK, that cigarette smoking in public places is still tolerated in those two countries.

@swirlie I think it's tolerated because of tax..
swirlie · 31-35
@Mellowgirl
I think it's tolerated in UK because there are too many people addicted to nicotine who think that smoking is 'normal' or is at least their 'right'.

All I can take is a faint waft coming from the distance in summer. In this cold wet weather it's incredibly disgusting though.
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
@CrazyMusicLover I go to a cafe on a Saturday morning every now and then. And if you're a smoker you can sit on the terrace. But that's where the main entrance is so the smell of smoke wafts in. Its absolutely disgusting and something I honestly can say puts me off my food. I generally tend to eat faster so I can enjoy it without having to inhale too much whilst enjoying my food.

Hate it, hate it, hate it. Always have
I have never smoked a cigarette. A fine cigar occasionally sure

I hate it, can't stand to be anywhere near it, it stinks.
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
@BlobbyMcBlobface I couldn't agree more. I think what bothers me more is the attitude that comes with asking for some consideration
BlobbyMcBlobface · 100+, M
@Mellowgirl I think it should be banned in busy public places, there's nothing worse than having to walk through a cloud of stinking smoke to go into a shop or pub, or when someone lights up at a bus stop. I don't think they realise how much it stinks and i wonder how they'd feel if I walked up to them and threw beer all over their clean clothes?
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
@BlobbyMcBlobface here! here!

Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
@tobynshorty 💯 agree
swirlie · 31-35
I was born and raised on a tobacco farm and nobody in my family ever smoked cigarettes, nor did my mom allow ashtrays in our home! 🤣
Tracos · 51-55, M
Filthy habit if you ask me
