lets talk about deodorant

ive been using aluminum free for years but i see so many jokes online about how everyone that wears it stinks. and like. i never ever smelled bo on me, even when it was time for a shower. but i thought maybe i just cant smell it on myself? so i started using it with aluminum and now smell bo 😵‍💫 what gives
I had to google to be sure, but aluminum in deodorants is actually there as an antiperspirant; its in the form of metal salts intended to block up sweat glands to keep your underarms more dry. (the odor that bothers people is actually bacteria living on your skin that consumes the sweat, dead skin.. and probably something else that I'm forgetting about). so the 3 main ways to attack bodily odors are to kill off the bacteria (can have some downsides), block up sweat glands (seems like a generally not great plan to me, but others may feel differently) or use some masking agent (the de-odor part of deodorant). as far as why you're detecting scent more now, I'd guess it has to do with how your skin reacts with new products vs. the older ones and/or the no aluminum one may have been a better general masking agent since it didn't have any antiperspirant, pore blocking metal salts to try to help.

I just put a glob of Vaseline there. It traps in the odors

Jk lol

Lets. 😵‍💫😪 There are salt crystals, there are many other avenues, even though I used them for a time, I discovered aloe vera gel. Well, deodorants neutralize the odours, antiperspirant blocks them (ya know those aluminium ones)... The latter meaning they actually still exist, and worse, they clog your perspiration and block what you need to sweat out.

I used Native for a long time but my shirts smelled terrible. I never had bo and the deodorant smelled wonderful but there was this odor trapped in my clothes, wtf?? So I stopped using that and went to Dove & Suave and problem solved.... ?
Who cares what others think???

If you feel like it works for you, then you keep doing it.

Some people insist that soap and water are the only deodorant that you need, others insist on using roll on deodorant, still others say that it has to be the expensive stuff... they can't all be right.

Aluminum is ok, say dermatologist. They say if you really want it to work put it on when you go to bed. Gives it a chance, overnight, to get to the sweat gland.
Go back to your previous formulation.

@Frostcloud So live with your BO in your frugality.
I use Suave solid. It’s two bucks and my pits smell delightful.

Shower once a day and you'd be fine most likely.
