Has anyone here with TMJ or who night clenches...

Have you ever had a sore tooth from clenching hard in your sleep? I got it about a month ago, but the tooth felt back to normal in a week, no pain

Well for a second time now, the same tooth has been sore or in pain for three weeks. Not all day but off and on. I saw my dentist he did not see any cracks. I'm going to the endodontist this week because to me, three weeks of pain seems enough. They can do a 3D Scan that shows roots and nerves.

Did they recommend a night guard?

@JovialMoose I'm going to talk to a dentist this week. My jaw is misaligned as well, so getting a night guard with my jaw not aligned might have to wait until I fix that. Hopefully once I get a splint that aligns jaw, it can help protect my teeth clenching as well.

@Lilnonames I wonder if listening to like a nature CD might be calming before you fall asleep? Or maybe some instrumental music? Sometimes I have to make sure I think of something positive before falling asleep. Or I'll clench more. Sometimes it does work. Other times I fall asleep before I can think of something LOL.. ughhh

@Baybreeze had them since i was five

I have had chips and cracks in my teeth from clenching. Ended up having to get a night guard and fillings too. Perhaps your dentist can give you other pointers too

@Baybreeze Yes they did. My night guard was a standard mouth piece used in boxing and football that can be purchased at any sporting goods store. It was very useful and I didn't have to spend hundreds of dollars from my the dentist

@rebelsoul And the sports mouth guard seemed ok overnight? Yes they are outrageous priced at a dentist. Ughh. Do you remember how long your sore or cracked tooth hurt? Mine has been hurting three weeks now off and on. I'll be seeing an endodontist this week to get 3d scans. But I guess online it says clenching can make a tooth hurt for weeks, even with no crack. This is so fun!! 😞

@Baybreeze The sports guard stayed in and cushioned the clenching. I did eventually get a bridge put in and it hurt off and on. You made an excellent choice by seeing someone about it, hope the suggestions you are given work out well for you

You need a night guard

Have you considered getting a night guard?
Baybreeze · 41-45, F
@Musicman yes I was putting it off Bec they are pricey but also horrible to get fitted for. But I'm getting a splint first to align my jaw, which is even MORE money 😢 but I really need it, so hopefully it'll shield my teeth from clenching in addition to aligning the jaw..

@Baybreeze Mine was easy to be fitted for. The dentist took all of her scans and that was it. Two weeks later it was in. She made a minor adjustment and life was good 😊
