Hilarious!!😂👍 it’s one of Sansui’s lower grade models direct drive (no belt), crude digital speed control. Interesting, likely mid 1980s I’d guess due to the crude speed control. Where the wooden box is would have likely been a stereo receiver and possibly a cassette deck.

Mid 80s sounds like it
So turns out it's a lower grade model and I thought it was the real deal 🤣

It’s still adorable!! Anyway, with it's direct drive motor it’s possible that circuit and motor are either noisy, unstable or both. However, it’s also possible there’s nothing wrong with it. I’d try turning it on to see before investing in a phono cartridge and mount for it. It could still be functional and anyway it’s cute 😊 @SW-User

@BackyardShaman are yes Sansui would've been in their infancy (certainly in the west then). However I believe direct drive was better than belt driven.

@GeniUs the preference for drive types is debated, and of course a matter of personal choice. Personally I have always preferred belt drive turntables for the stability and isolation they offer from the motor itself. The strobe speed control models allowed precise speed adjustments, as well as looking cool while tripping late at night listening to the Moody Blues😂
