I found this thing in my parent's basement 馃檭

I'm pretty damn sure it is older than me. It existed as far as I could remember and even as a small kid I can't recall if it was ever used. It was more like out of date. I think there are missing parts but I'm not very certain, lol

Hilarious!!馃槀馃憤 it鈥檚 one of Sansui鈥檚 lower grade models direct drive (no belt), crude digital speed control. Interesting, likely mid 1980s I鈥檇 guess due to the crude speed control. Where the wooden box is would have likely been a stereo receiver and possibly a cassette deck.

Mid 80s sounds like it
So turns out it's a lower grade model and I thought it was the real deal 馃ぃ

It鈥檚 still adorable!! Anyway, with it's direct drive motor it鈥檚 possible that circuit and motor are either noisy, unstable or both. However, it鈥檚 also possible there鈥檚 nothing wrong with it. I鈥檇 try turning it on to see before investing in a phono cartridge and mount for it. It could still be functional and anyway it鈥檚 cute 馃槉 @SW-User

@BackyardShaman are yes Sansui would've been in their infancy (certainly in the west then). However I believe direct drive was better than belt driven.

@GeniUs the preference for drive types is debated, and of course a matter of personal choice. Personally I have always preferred belt drive turntables for the stability and isolation they offer from the motor itself. The strobe speed control models allowed precise speed adjustments, as well as looking cool while tripping late at night listening to the Moody Blues馃槀
