Do You Recycle Your Amazon Boxes?

I’m thinking it’ll be a good thing to stuff them with trash, tape them back up and leave them on my porch for when I go somewhere. Let’s see if any of them get removed.
4meAndyou · F
Not in quite the way you are planning...🤣🤣🤣. I break them down by slitting the tape with my box cutter, and take them to the recycling bin on the first floor. Cardboard is the only thing we can recycle.

If you are planning a nasty surprise for the porch pirates, be sure your name has been removed from the box first...and from ALL the trash inside the box!

@4meAndyou yeah they could throw the box out in public somewhere and I could get charged and fined for littering. That happened to a man that I knew who lived in a rural area and he beat the charges. I imagine someone had stolen his mail and then threw it away and that’s how they came up with the charges. Mail thefts in rural areas can be very common.

It’s not just rural areas that mail gets stolen…
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@2cool4school There have been attacks on mail carriers here in central Oklahoma as well.

We haven't had a problem with porch pirates yet, but living in a Sanctuary State, it's only a matter of time. The crime, drugs, weapons, and murders are coming closer every day.
AbbeyRhode · F
@cherokeepatti I've seen some good videos on YouTube from people who booby-trapped boxes, too. :)
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@AbbeyRhode they need to put ink in the boxes to mark the thieves. Or skunk stink.
AbbeyRhode · F
@cherokeepatti One guy did put something stinky. Another one put fine glitter that exploded everywhere when the thief opened it. The reactions are hilarious. 😄
Good idea. lol

Yes I do recycle them

@Sojournersoul I cleaned out the boxes in my garage last fall and flattened all but the largest of them and put all the flattened boxes in the largest one. Took them to the recycling center next to the fire station. Must have been over 20 boxes in the large box and it freed up a lot of space in the garage. I have been throwing most out lately but just thought of doing this. We had a package thief that got sent to prison for one year a little over a year ago and he’s been released. One of the post on the Nextdoor Neighborhood feed on this side of the city was about someone who had stolen a package off of her doorstep yesterday.
@cherokeepatti I take all mine to the local recycling center, only 5 minutes from the house. We don’t have a problem with porch pirates. yet. Lol

They make great containers when sending gifts :)
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Nimbus some of them sure do. I know someone who keeps them and uses them in his business if he wants to mail something.
sometimes i reuse them, sometimes they end up in the fire pit
HumanEarth · 56-60, F
I have never used Amazon to have any of their boxes
Mostly go in the recycling cart. I keep some of the smaller ones around in case I need to ship something or need a handy container for carrying some things.

I can't recall seeing any package stealing going on around my neighborhood.
Musicman · 61-69, M
LMAO!!! 😂😂😂 You are hilarious! 😂😂😂 I would never have thought of that. Fortunately I live in a very safe neighborhood and to keep them from rotting in place I break them down and recycle them.
Sroonaka616 · 31-35, M
I keep the big boxes for if I have to move house or someone else needs them. If not I put them in my recycling bin.
I used some to make huge Christmas present decorations in my yard. I use the others for my pets and storage.
akindheart · 61-69, F
that is novel. i reuse all of my boxes and it makes my brother mad to see them all but they come in handy
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
Great idea. Do it and let us know please.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@jackjjackson Someone told me about 2O years ago that a man who owned a small drive-in business in a small town was bored due to lack of customers. It was before Christmas and business was way down due to people being broke from buying gifts. So he took a box, put an old cookie tin filled with dog poo in it, sealed that with tape and wrapped it up like it was a gift and left it near his door of the business like it was a package drop-off. He had nothing better to do than watch from behind the counter. Watched as a car pulled up to the curb, a man got out and grabbed the package and put it in his car and slowly drove off. The owner went outside and watched and saw the car start swerving back and forth and the can of poo being thrown out on the road .He got a big kick out of retelling that.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
Excellent. I bet you can top that this year ma’am. @cherokeepatti
Adrift · 61-69, F
Yes. I break them down and shred them, to use in my compost pile. The worms love it.
fun4us2b · M
Lol - great idea for when you're traveling and will be away for trash pickup day! 😅
I jump on them and put them to the paper containers to be recycled.
Pretzel · 61-69, M
and if you need to clean your litterbox... :)
It's better to use kitty litter...
ArtieKat · M
You're wicked, Patti! 🤣😂😁
