Have you noticed an increase in generic junk products on Amazon?

Have you noticed that whenever you search for a given product on Amazon, the initial results are all these products with meaningless "brand names" in all caps like ZORXWO and STILVY and things like that? Apparently these are throwaway trademarks that Chinese factories create to conform to American law which requires products be sold under a brand name. And you have to scroll through a lot of this stuff to find any recognizable brands.

Amazon seems to have gotten really crappy recently. I ended up canceling my Prime subscription. 😕

I'm not just going stand by while you smear the good name of STILVY, the best usb stick I've ever used

A lot of times your buying the same product under a different brand name. But if you stick with Prime you know those companies have been vetted. If they're offering the return policy they do with Prime they want to make sure those companies are solid. I don't have retail stores around me and Amazon is kind of necessary. I only buy via Prime and it's worked out really well.

I would not even "subscribe" to these companies; I would not trust them.

What mail-order purchases I make - postal, telephone or Internet - are very few in number, for special items, from known retailers. Unless incapacitated I would not even use the regular supermarkets' on-line order and delivery services: I visit the shops physically. I refuse their "loyalty cards", sometimes idiotically called "club" cards, too.

I have though have noticed that Mickeysoft, Goggles and their like are rendering searching for anything on the Internet harder and harder, and more and more frustrating.

It's fine if you have a definite web-site address to use; but more generic searches are blocked by screenful after screenful of junk. Totally irrelevant links via only the flimsiest text-matching; and by screenful, a full-size display nearly ten inches deep, not the titchy thing on a 'phone.

Certain craft hobby circles have coined the general name for a low-quality material, especially metal, Chinesium!

(If you can't find it, it's evidently of Unobtanium.)

They give their stuff away for free in exchange for positive reviews. Before my account got blacklisted from reviewing things I've gotten about a thousand dollars worth of cool things from them. Now all burned up due to the wildfires here, but it was fun while it lasted. My brother still gets things occasionally
Savesoo is the main site for it.

Most of these 'companies' are just one seller buying from manufacturers, packaging it up and selling them. It's a little wholesome.
They likely have a lot more sellers on their platform looking to make money, plus the usual supply chain issue excuse.

And brand you don't know, does not automatically mean they are junk. Name brands mean very little these days. Doing your own due diligence before you buy a product has always been, and still is, your job, not theirs. I don't want amazon deciding for me what my needs are, or anyone else for that matter.

I’ve noticed this yes, this always happens when a distributor gets too big and greedy. There is also an increase in counterfeit products on Amazon, basically you’re buying from a robotic mind when shopping there. I have almost cut Amazon out of my life.

I haven’t purchased from Amazon in a few years because of this. It’s not to say that I don’t always search for whatever I’m contemplating on buying elsewhere, but the reviews and past experiences I’ve had are enough to confirm that it’s just not worth the hassle of being ripped off or having to undergo the unavoidable disappointment which would then require me to put on jeans to go out into the world to return the crap.

Meh, this is nothing new, at the end of WWII it was anything made in Japan was cheap crap, then in the 50's and 60's it was made in Taiwan, 80's and 90's made in Korea (Samsung, Goldstar (now LG) and Hyundai). Most of what you see on Amazon has to do with American copyright laws that everything must have a Brand name. If you really want to blame someone, blame American manufacturers who moved their manufacturing to China and Mexico to avoid high wages, unions and benefits in order to increase profits, note that the prices didn't go down, did they? Most of the "Brand Name" stuff you buy in stores is made in China too, often in the same plant. Even such iconic American brands as Levis are made in Pakistan now... If it has to do with food, buy brand name, if it's a USB cable, go with the cheaper one, it's probably made in the same factory in China!

When has there ever been anything that's not a junk product for sale through Amazon?

Bezos doesn't care - all profits drive development of his Dick-in-Space business.

Buyer beware... a lot of sites are not up to par... I have read that Etsy is being looked at for having imitation items sold and whatnot.

I can't say I've been too disappointed with items I buy on Amazon, but... I'm not looking for high priced name brands. I look for what will work for my purposes. If I'm not happy, I get a refund... probably faster and easier than some other places.

I try to do my homework about products and where they originate... whether it be Amazon, Walmart or some local place.

I agree.

They carry knock stuff that LOOKS like the original you trust - and just some cheap Chinese crap.
