Do you trust that any online reviews of products of services are genuinely written and submitted by humans anymore?

With the rise of AI everything it's basically now not possible to accept that online reviews, esp positive glowing (so called '5 star' ones) are legit and written and submitted by humans.

What's your feeling on this topic?

Yes, I mean I take the averages of the numbers I see on that website, and look at how many bad ones and get a sense with that...

Like on Temu, it's seems like the bare minimum you can get is 4.5 out of 5.... because they have so many fake reviews pumping the reviews up... so if it's below 4.5 it's truly crap (assuming there is a decent amount of reviews and not just a total small sample).

But yeah I ignore that reviews that seem too good to be true, or the ones that are complaining about delivery or something, which might out of the product owners hands ...

So yeah, I try to figure out the average and the pattern and work off of that, and focus more on tbe negative and thoughtful reviews and ignore the emotional ones

@sstronaut Apparently airbnb is notorious for fake reviews, like many product review platforms are. And negative reviews get removed, or negative reviewers get banned, or legal action taken against them.

Classic cases of negative reviewing resulting in litigation - Will Prowse vs Battle Born Batteries (aka Dragonfly Energy), or Stephan Fischer vs Deep Cycle Systems.

@zonavar68 well, there are some that use negative reviews as weapons to blackmail or spread falsehoods...

But I think reasonable and true negative reports should be kept...

I don't use AirBnB so I don't have a clue about them

@sstronaut It could go as far as Trump using AI to create fake news reports that work to his advantage. Not quite 'fake reviews' but the effect is similar.

I dont really trust reviews I also dont trust self reported surveys.
