Remember that charity/thrift/op shops only exist because (here at least) they operate with mostly volunteer (ie. free unpaid) labour, and being a church-related charity in most instances get to operate tax-free as well. Otherwise they would be a commercial failure.
Recycling of any sort only exists where there are profits to be made.
