Around here there are like 4 or 5 charity shops just in the town where I live. Since the local council stopped doing regular twice-yearly bulk waste collections they have been inundated with 'stuff' people don't want, and a large amount of it gets rejected.

@meggie When the twice yearly bulk waste collections still happened, people used to sometimes have massive piles of junk and it all went to landfill. Now it probably gets dumped in the bush, dumped at charity shops, or burnt. 8-) People don't understand the full cycle of their 'stuff' and the impact it has because suburban enclave living is so 'insulating'.
