Can the awareness behind one's thoughts be separated from the thoughts themselves?

@DunningKruger Perhaps thinking just happens. Like digestion of food.
@Trippy as much as we like to think that thinking just happens, we do have choices with what we choose to think.

@Trippy In a sense, that's true, as our brain develops on its own without requiring us to do anything, so things like consciousness just happen.
