Why are people like this?

Have you ever known someone with a dangerous job or lifestyle and you find yourself worrying more for that person than they do themselves? While you sit holding your breath on pins and needles they seem so nonchalant as if they couldn't have just lost their life at any given moment.

I worked as a police officer for years. My mother was always a nervous wreck. My younger brother worked in a steel mill. My police department didn't lose a man to assault or gunfire in 25 years. My brother's steel mill had 2-4 people killed every year. She never worried about him
