The right thing is to say it politely

I tend to ghost people who I really dislike or who are totally gross (only talk about sex type stuff etc.)
If I find the person nice, but maybe a bit draining then I might say something (but I do try not to be too harsh.)

Ghosting doesn't work with trolls. In fact they expect to get the last word. They think because you haven't replied therefore they won the argument. Better to say something therefore it's oblivious to everyone.

I rarely don't have the last word on my own comments.

If it's from the OP that's a different story. OP's always get notifications no matter what. Even on hidden comments.

That's so the OP can delete such comments and replies.

Telling someone you don’t want to talk leaves some wiggle room for diplomacy. Depending on the situation of course.

In some situations I have no issues ghosting people. If I feel that done with them, I've likely already made them aware there's things I won't deal with.
