I didn't like private messages because some people would be very into you and then ghost you, and it felt like a total waste of time

I think it's a terrible idea to invest oneself here.. Or online. Or maybe anywhere really.
Well depends with who, but for the most part isn't a good idea I think

Not many are into me which is fine.

I look.for people who are consistent and have the ability to.carry out conversations on various levels/ topics.

I only interact with a few and I am very specific to who I want to send my message.
