I didn't like private messages because some people would be very into you and then ghost you, and it felt like a total waste of time

I think it's a terrible idea to invest oneself here.. Or online. Or maybe anywhere really.
Well depends with who, but for the most part isn't a good idea I think

If you want to test if someone really likes you or not, ask them to buy you a drink. If they buy you anything other than a rootbeer, they really don’t care about you…
