Have you ever fallen in love with someone?

I did twice.
Though the first time was nothing more than a school yard crush. Not ever sure what year it was. Maybe 1975.
Might have been year 8, purely guessing. Never had the courage to tell her.
The other time was absolute love for about 3 years. We parted company back in 1990. Totally broke my heart and I never allowed myself to "fall in love" again.

Gus, in part I suffer the same.

Sports & study was my life in high school, girls were a distraction.

I did Pathways at high school ( 3 subjects a year ) due to being away for long periods, Rugby world tour & NSW Emerging Blues program, designed for players aged 15 to 18.

I had NO interest until my final year at Uni ( https://acpe.edu.au/ ) I met a girl at the local Ag college Rugby game. Started going out, she was from the USA over here doing a Masters in Rural Environmental Planning & told me she was single. After a few weeks she moved in with me, I got a car for her, no payment asked for food or living, flowers every week, always paid when we went out.

2 1/2 years together, talked about her getting citizenship, marriage, kids, future Eg.

She got her Masters, 4 days later I come home to an empty house ( No furniture, TV, Frig, Eg ) she had sold it all. Got back home to America.

Police called, check done.

She was married, hubby was in jail, fake name & ID. Still to this day Cops have not found her.

It cuts deep, hard to every trust again.

@SW-User Such a sad story that plays out all over Australia.
I realised that if I do not allow anyone in then I can not get hurt or taken for a ride.
I do not think I have missed out. Sure, there are marriages that work, I think there are many marriages that do not work as desired and those couples may well go through life very unhappy indeed.
