I think sometimes people won't look past my appearance

It's starting to affect my confidence in my skills and me as a person

With appearance it feels as if people immediately make decisions about intellect, skills, hobbies, sexuality, lifestyle, and personality rather than looking for more clues as to what makes you multi-faceted.
You immediately become whatever they’ve decided goes along with your looks.
Rarely do people deny that attractiveness has perks, but there is so much judgement and hatred that comes along with it, and it seems like people don’t want to acknowledge that. So much blame is placed on people that are seen as attractive.

The most beautiful people I know don’t align with the stereotypes at all. I wonder if those are kept alive because of intimidation
You’re a very intelligent person , you’ve shown that here so many times, if I knew you better I’m sure your intelligence would show through even more intensely than it does here.
Don’t doubt yourself! If others seem to place more attention on your looks than your intelligence that’s their problem.

If you feel that you’re experiencing something like this among your professional peers then the solution might be to press you professional opinions more urgently and maybe even refrain from light banter in favor of expressing yourself in terms of your knowledge and understanding of your position..

I don’t know really, just putting it out there, but I do think that you should keep up your confidence in yourself, there is nothing lacking in your intellectual ability!

In the professional world, in my experience, people do sometimes make initial judgments based on appearances. It’s not fair, but it’s reality. However it doesn’t take long for those judgments to be replaced with a better understanding of what people bring to the job and the conversation. People who are self-confident, bright, hard-working and communicate well (that one is really important) will succeed regardless of appearance and background and other subjective traits. ❤️

People don't look past my tattooed appearance either or the fact that I've been in prison most people assume the worst about me or like me from a distance but you know what that's okay honestly I really don't need people's approval anymore I'm doing fairly well now living without it and the more I realize that the better I get at being by myself

in what way? do you find that people make certain assumptions about you?

Are you looking beyond it ? Because it seems that you are placing a great amount of your attention there. That's driving others to look at it too...
@SW-User what makes you think that
MrAverage1965 · 61-69, M
I think that applies to most people regardless of their appearances, first impressions, etc.

Change the conversation then. You can control that.
@SW-User 🙄

Are you sure about this? What is there to look past?
Don't worry. It will fade in time.

@PepsiColaP I think many would say you are! … but that’s not all you are, and that’s where people get lost (their assumptions and sometimes even jealousy).

yes the mother aspect is a whole other thing… people have assumptions and/or expectations as to who/how I am.

Yeah, seems their backpedaling just made them sound even more ignorant and opinionated.

Keep being you; unapologetically ❤️
