I have experienced winter in the San Francisco area. I know what you are talking about.

My wife grew up in Milwaukee, and what made winter tough for her was the fact that the city, like SF, is on a major body of water, and so it was always a windy, wet cold.

When she moved to Minnesota, which is colder but dryer, she found it more bearable. She calls it "honest cold."

we've had unseasonably warm temperatures here. not by a huge margin but nevertheless. i don't even have the heat on right now. but it's been wet. floods in some parts and also in washington state....i'm in no threat of floods where i am and i'm happy with the warmer temps...hovering around 50f 10c

It's just been in the low 40's here so far, but it's been harder for me to make myself stay up until at least 11:00 lately...too. The nights seem to stretch on so much longer sometimes now, since the "fall back" time change.

First thing in the morning I get a fire going in the woodstove. They feed the dog and get hot coffee for my wife and myself. But get that fire going first. :)

I watch this usually in January - but here it is - from a different culture but makes sense...

But, OK, I'm going to sleep - I'm 3 hours ahead of you....

Electric blankets were great in unheated bedrooms on the farm growing up
