The better place generally comes when you find peace with yourself. Being in conflict with yourself, or feeling like something is missing from your life, leaves you in turmoil. It's like an unsolved puzzle. Closure is often step 1 and it often means finding your own closure without outside input. Being kind to yourself is essential, even if you have to fake it to make it. Then rediscovering the contentment that you can get from the little, simple things in life can be very empowering. When all of your sense of peace is vested in things beyond your control then you're never truly at peace.
