Try to post about a common subject and people will chime in. There are plenty of people here to talk with. It takes some reaching out and a little lucky timing.

Try reading Breaking The Patterns Of Depression by Michael Yapko. He's the best on the topic. All of it practical. Cheapest therapy there is.
Getting onto a social site like this is not a bad start - though it contains fischers, pros, salesmen, evangelists, con-artists and trolls. We soon learn to recognise them and develop defenses.
Finding like-minded friends has about the same level of difficulty and ease as in real life - takes patience. Eventually, you're likely to meet at least one person who's sympatico. Others make very agreeable acquaintances.
PS Chemically, alcohol is a depressant.
If you have high tolerance (iw, don't get hung over easily), you may be drinking quite a lot. There'll be phases of abstinence or maybe trying to cut down, but they don't last.
The hardest part is giving up. If you ever want to, try 6 visits in 6 weeks to a local AA group. They give great support because they've lived the journey.
