It's not the same struggle...

Seeing people post about Palestine and Mexico stating that it's "one struggle" - no it's not.

Mexicans have their struggles, Palestinians have their struggles - but they're individual people with individual stories/history🤦🏼‍♀

I got added to a collab, where a guy tried to take clips from the demo's in LA, and twist it to be about Palestine, I told him it's not, it's about Mexicans and other immigrants being deported and basically head-hunted by ICE. He tried to tell me that I shouldn't share that detail, cause it doesn't matter. So I told him that my family is Mexican-Americans, It matters to me, and there's no way I'll be on that collab - he apologized and deleted the video..

I'm Pro-Palestine, I also support Mexicans and other immigrants just wanting to live peacefully, work and provide for their family. Don't think that means I'll fabricate anything to make it look like something it's not. It's disrespectful on both sides 🙄

I made a post here wishing people from a certain country peace and some lady went on about far fetched conspiracy theories about why those people don't deserve peace.

So I tried reposting the same thing but being way more general and not naming political "buzzwords" and still, some guy made it about something else.

People in propaganda-rich countries are falling for it, hard. They think everything is some kind of performance where you have to latch onto uncanny narratives and exaggerations to stand for something.

Me and you stand for innocent people not being shot by missiles or violated by someone who thinks they can get away with it because they wear a uniform.

You did a good thing in that collab. 🤗 Maybe be careful and less direct, mi amiga, but this worked out well. 😂🤗 I'm proud of you for staying clear headed despite all you're going through.

@ThesebootsRmade4walking I like to just let them hang themselves on their own words. Let em talk and then call em out on their BS. It's gotten pretty easy over the years.
@Cassieeeee Lol calmate, Señora Feisty
I do understand this. When I’ve discussed African-American history, I’ve had people make comparisons to other groups, as well. The struggles are different. 🥺

@bijouxbroussard Exactly! I get that some people make those comparisons to feel closer or to better understand the experiences. It’s totally okay to recognize similarities — as long as we don’t take away the unique struggles and autonomy of each group.
When people say it's one struggle, they mean because both cases are about racism. Of course it's not totally the same, there's lots of differences and nuance, but comparisons can be made in terms of both being examples of racism and authoritarian governing.

@BohemianBabe Yes, I get that, and it's okei to look at similarities — as long as we don’t take away the unique struggles and autonomy of each group.

It isn't the same no.
There are some overlaps (most Mexicans are overwhelmingly indigenous and were subjected to settler colonialism), but we're not facing a live genocide.
Cassieeeee · 31-35, F
@basilfawlty89 That's true, I just don’t like when people try to compare different people and their struggles as if they’re the same.. 🥹
I couldn't agree more.

Thank you for posting this! 👍🏻

It's just weird and unnecessary. What, is innocent people being sent to a foreign gulag not enough of a morally urgent cause for some people?
If only more people could think as clearly as you do,
