Do you stock up?

Do you stock up on food and household supplies or wait until you are out before you buy more?

I just did my weekly check and I could easily get by for a month without buying anything (3 months on some things)... but then I'd need to buy almost everything.

For consumables that don’t go bad, I’d usually have at least a month’s supply. We usually shop from Costco, so you can imagine how many rolls of toilet paper I have! 😁

@CookieCrumbs paper towels, eyeglass cleaners, we rent a storage room in our building, you need to be very careful opening the door!
@samueltyler2
Oh yes! The eyeglass cleaners!!! I could use them to clean the bathroom mirror!

@CookieCrumbs I believe my battery stock pile of everything from AAA to D and some button-type batteries could power a large cruise ship. Oh, and paper towels... it's almost shameful how many rolls I have. And Christmas stuff - I've got a large variety of sizes and designs of gift bags stored that will last me into the next decade. And for woodworking, I've got enough screws of pretty much all sizes and types to build a couple of houses with - and specialized hardware, another stack of almost an embarrassing array of that too.

The last time my daughter was up for a visit she said my storage area (half of the bedroom I use as an office) looks likes what she sees on hoarder shows🤣
Thats how I shop. looking on line for the posted discount special lets be stock up and rarely pay full price😷

@whowasthatmaskedman yeah, I tried the order online and pick up at the grocery store a few times. It worked sort of, but you could never be sure and I quit using that option.
@Ontheroad Yes. Fruit and veg or meat you really want to choose yourself.😷
Ontheroad · M
@whowasthatmaskedman especially the fruit and vegetables.
Yea I do. But always check on the expiry date.
Ontheroad · M
@mindstruggle yep, I try to stock the shelf with the newest at the back. Many things don't require that, but food stuff sure does.

We usually buy like 200 to 300 baby chicks (if something wipes out our flock) at one time.

10 one day calf's at once (we raise beefers) and a few milkers fo r the house and the adult kids that have kids.

Going to trade a few pigs for a truck this weekend

@HumanEarth that's what they call hamburger on a hoof.

That's what's how it was. I miss them. There is only a handful of that family still alive. I'm still very close friends with that family

I was kinda like adopted in - you could say

We are big Costco people! I think that says it all.

p
when we get low on an item we add to shopping list. I don't want cupboards full of food.
Ontheroad · M
@meggie I think that's what most people do, but I'm horrible at remembering the list I so carefully wrote. Then I end up not being able to remember everything I needed and have to make another trip.
meggie · F
@Ontheroad i do a fortnightly online shop and add what I need as I go, instead of a list. That way too, I can check the half price specials out and buy in bulk if it's something we use lots of.
Ontheroad · M
@meggie That's kind of what I do... about every couple of weeks I do an online order for items I can't get locally and for items that are less expensive online. Actually I've got a few items that are automatically shipped to me at different periods. Online shopping sure cuts down on the trips to the grocery store, plus you can find many things that aren't available locally.

I try to stock up. Doesn't always turn out that way though.
Ontheroad · M
@SleepingWithGhosts Yeah, as organized as I try to be, there is always something I end up making a quick trip to get... or more often just not get it.

@Picklebobble2 I hadn't heard of this - hope it gets straightened out before it gets worse. We are still experiencing some spot shortages, shortages that make no sense and I'm not sure what is causing it.
Ontheroad · M
@0uijaFinger so you shop frequently?
@Ontheroad Yes. However if anyone needs rose or orange blossom water, I have plenty
