Help! Where does a guy find shirts?

Okay, I'm old and I'm not into fashion forward or whatever they call the trendy styles. I want a quality casual long sleeve shirt, loose/relaxed or traditional fit and I want cotton.

I don't want L.L. Bean or Carhart... I have issues with both companies. I also don't want the crappola Walmart, Khols, etc sell.

I can't find them! Help!🤣

I know exactly what you are saying. I wear LL Bean but their quality is going downhill unfortunately which really pisses me off. Plus all the clothes is made in India. I am at a loss as well. I got some shirts from Cabela's and they seem pretty durable.

@HannahSky until very recently, their clothing was worth every penny charged. I have a shirt that has been worn regularly for almost 7 years.

@Ontheroad Almost all my clothes are LL Bean and very old
Ontheroad · M
@JimboSaturn same here - comfortable and they just keep on keeping on. My one serious issue with them is the massive support ($$$) a board member and Bean family member gave to the orange guy... I've, I guess, kind of cooled down on that because it was just one of the family and a single board member, but it had me boycotting them for a period of time.

In reality, if I boycotted every company over politics, I'd have a hard time buying much of anything😁

Have you heard of "UNTUCKit?" I've never ordered from them so I can't speak on the quality, but the styles may be to your liking. Not a "kid's store."

I hate to tell you, but Cabela's went into the toilet after Bass Pro bought them out. The prices went up and quality went down. The "Red Head" brand shirts they carry are sized odd and the pockets are tiny. Be sure to try a few on before you purchase them. The pockets are sized for a 6-year old's shirt.

I loved the old Cabela's flannel shirts. Alas, they are no more.

The few American shirts that I have had that were good were Van Heusen but their website doesn't show much that looks interesting now. If you can get European brands try Batistini.

And you can get Marks and Spencers in the US: https://www.marksandspencer.com/us/l/men/formal-shirts/

When I want a quality dress shirt, I order it from Paul Frederick, but only when they are marked down. They are too expensive otherwise. I'm sure their casual shirts are good, too.

I have quite a few like that I found on eBay. The older ones are made from heavier weight cotton. They literally don't make them now like they used to.
Ontheroad · M
@Nitedoc they don't and it annoys me to no end. I don't like wearing some synthetic plastic like product, or thin, almost see through cotton shirts.
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
@Ontheroad You're right. They were made a little looser back in the day too, you had room to move. Now they put out the cheapest thing they can get by with. I always wear 100% cotton in casual clothes. I even check out Goodwill and Salvation Army store for the older shirts. I bought Columbia brand new for years but they have gone to a synthetic mix now that is terrible.

Nordstroms, Macy's, jc penny's, go to the mall. Jcrew. Do you live near the Outlets? Or go to something like a sporting goods store where they sell men's clothes with casual clothes.

All of mine come from thrift store. I have some nice ones but mostly I wear t-shirts.
do you have any shirts of that style now ?? if so, where did you get them ?? Dickies and Wrangler make some sturdy shirts, but, if that aint your style, then i got no clue.
Ontheroad · M
@YourMomsSecretCrush yeah, most of them are from LL Bean and they wear so well it has been years since I bought any.
@Ontheroad LL Bean makes good stuff.
Ontheroad · M
@YourMomsSecretCrush they do and I've been buying from them for many years, but I have issues with them and trying to find the quality and style they sell seems to be near impossible.

GAP - Also Jos A Banks has a pretty good selection of Casual and Dress shirts.
Look for shirts on Amazon and then read some reviews.
For trendy casual... I just go to JC Pennys.

Used to use Lands End,but not recetly
Ontheroad · M
@bookerdana yep, they've succumbed to fashion and gone downhill on quality too.

Men's Warehouse and Dillard's are two good places. I love Dillard's. 🙂

Kohl's has some decent ones that even comes with a tie for 30 bucks
Are you for or against buying shirts online without trying them on?

Also, what are you issues with the companies? (Short version please)
