U.S. Electoral College

I'm done with it... have been for quite some time. Depending on what state you live in your vote means nothing.

We (the country) should have a President elected by the people, not politicians.

The electoral college was a remarkable idea. It is not entirely democratic in nature. It is a balance against the majority acting in a way that dominates the rights of the minority.

@Muthafukajones So why should the majority of people be penalized? And as far as rights, those are federally enshrined that impact everyone equally. States still have their own laws on countless issues. They can ban abortion even though the majority of people support it, right? So why does the minority have more rights than the majority? That doesn't strike me as balance.

@Muthafukajones So, it's okay for the minority to dominate the right of the majority?

Yeah, no.

One voter, one vote.

Winner takes all.

@Ontheroad I don’t know the exact reasons for the electoral college. You can look it up and you’ll see that there are valid reasons for it.

If the United States had had representation like one voter one vote in 1776 the voters of the United Kingdom would have outvoted any of the concerns of the colonists and the results of history would have been the same. The electoral college forces the elected president to be chosen from all parts of the country so that very populous states cannot dominate all the others.

That is a brief explanation of the existence of the electoral college and its purpose within the United States.

@Muthafukajones that’s how it’s supposed to work so the under represented gets a fair shake in a presidential election!
The forefathers had it right !
And by the way people we are a republic first NOT a democracy!
