What is the right thing to do?

Where ever a person lives no matter what part of the world,the phrase "do the right thing"comes up in life.Lets look at that in detail.A man hurts or kills a family member or friend should you do the same to him ?Its the right thing to do most say.A person gives you a hug for no other reason than to show they are thinking of you.Does that mean you should go around hugging everyone you think needs one.That would be fun till the cops came and hauled your ass to jail for being overly friendly.I recently thanked a friend for doing something that matterd very much to me.He replied "hey were family thats what family does".I wont go into what he did but he was so right in what he said.I geuss to me the right thing to do is flexible.It shouldnt be but it is.It comes down to how someone else interpets your way of doing the right thing.I have said kind things to people on this site and got shit on,yet others were kind in return.I geuss the long and short of it is do whats right and youll generally be right to most people.The others that dont like what you did cant be pleased sometimes.Have a great day and try not to piss off anyone.
