Is it safe to use earbuds during thunderstroms? [I Am Responsible For My Own Safety]

My elders always told me not to use earphones or earbuds during thunderstroms because you could hit by lighting.

I wonder is this true? 🤔

I know it much easier explained in science and logically but the truth is lightning could strike anywhere it likes.
Which is why I am still stick with what elders told me even sometimes it doesn't make sense (only about this topic).
