Venting question

why are people so obsessed with doing things their way or being "right"? what is so wrong about being different? I have a theory... but I want to hear yours.

As an example there may be 10 ways of doing something. If my way is number 2 and your way is number 7 does it really matter??? As long as both ways get it done what difference does it make. 🤷‍♂

@Musicman no that's just funny. Hahaha maybe they got lost on the one day they failed to use the GPS. Oh my belief is that people are comforted by familiarity. They might actually be mentally timing themselves based on the number of directions spoken at any given moment and location. They may be using it like a measuring stick... "this word is spoken here and so there are only 2 min left to arrive."

@Mindful God bless them. I was like you. I half felt embarrassed for them and the other half wanted to laugh, but I didn't say anything.

@Mindful Thank you very much for the Best Comment 🙂

For a lot of folks, digging their boots in and demanding things be done their way is just a coping mechanism for anxiety. If they let someone else take the wheel, they feel completely naked and out of control. Other times, it's just pure vanity, they tie their whole self-worth to being right. To those folks, admitting your way is better feels like taking a beating in a public square.

But look, no matter how much they chap your hide, there are just some chores where you can’t let 'em run wild. If it’s a high-stakes job, they need a supervisor watching over their shoulder. They’ve got to follow the blueprint of someone who actually knows what the heck they’re doing, or else someone’s gonna end up getting hurt.

I blame the Cats....

@eyeno those cats are definitely not self aware nor considerate of others. Am I being too judgmental?

pride, ego, and insecurity
Mindful · 56-60, F
@1490wayb insecurity is definitely at the root of it... ironically because they sound so certain... as if they're going to go banana s if it's not their way

I like to do things my way. Different from this world and I'm usually honest when I'm wrong. I try not to be a human when it comes to arguments. Shouting or always trying to be right.

I don't mind if I'm wrong. I wouldn't even care less. I try to fix it.

Also I don't want to be like my step dad when he wants to be right and wouldn't stop yapping about it and yelling.
Mindful · 56-60, F
@FreestyleArt when one is alone it's perfectly normal to want to do things your own way.in fact, It's always normal to want to do things your way. It's when others are around that we should be open to having to compromise. Make a choice and move on. No point in simmering or fussing about it. My guess is that change is uncomfortable for some people. People are comfortable with what's familiar. They might have an aversion to what's different.

I'm not obsessed with doing things my way or being right even though I am right and my way is the best way... LOL...but I am a bit egotistical...LOL

The great irony is that the Internet was founded to broaden the sharing of perspectives, viewpoints, information and instead social media has fostered the polarization of everything into right/wrong, fed with misinformation, hatred, and outright bullying.
Mindful · 56-60, F
@dancingtongue the internet makes both kindness and cruelty easier to express.

Fools are the most certain they are right in nearly every scenario ..
Mindful · 56-60, F
@BrandNewMan uuuhhhmmm hmmm . Yep. God help me be humble when I'm wrong.
BrandNewMan · 61-69, M
@Mindful Yep .. and at least be curious enough to wonder if I'm really right at times ..
Ego. One of the many reasons so many here seem to love condescending to others. it's gross.
Mindful · 56-60, F
@DancingStarGoddess definitely.
