Why is there something when there can be nothing?

Its a deep serious question in physics and philosophy and I'm an ordinary slob so I cant say I know. I am more baffled at questions like what existed before there was anything? Like...before the Big Bang. And what is the nature of Dark Matter and why don't we know more about that by now?

And also if we are part of the Light Matter what enlightens us?
@PleasurePunch It's too bad that humans spend so much time and money on war, that we'll never really know the answers to these questions.
