There are more people enslaved today than at any time in human history. Including during the transatlantic slave trade days.

Why dont we hear more about this?

Are you certain about that ? Or is it just another way of dismissing the past by history revisionists ? 馃槥
@bijouxbroussard The article makes some hard reading but it is worth it. I would trust The Guardian a bit more than many other media outlets.

For my mind, it kinda makes sense considering the world population is more than 3 times higher than it was in the 1800s
@Ozymandiaz I don't trust the Guardian. There is something called Liberal revisionist history that doesn't understand what people went through in the past.
@thewindupbirdchronicles Whether you trust it or not is up to you. Saying that revisionism is a thing does not negate or disprove any of the points made in the article.

Have you got any evidence that does so? If you do I would be willing to read it.

@bijouxbroussard There is definitely no dismissing those atrocities of the past. Those events happened and we should never forget them.

Along with the modern day slave, human trafficking (for sex) is a huge business too.
@iamonfire696 and gets worse by the day. Fuck Putin and his immoral war.

@DarkHeaven human traffickers groom kids online and then get them to meet and take them. They do this in public too. It鈥檚 so scary.
@iamonfire696 terrifying.

@thewindupbirdchronicles So you don't trust the Guardian, but what about these organizations and publications? Who do you think makes inexpensive clothing, or even shoes like Nikes? Who do you think is putting together modern electronics, and Christmas lights? Slavery has been around for thousands of years. It stains the history of many nations. Slavery is an evil that continues to exist in our world. The more you investigate, the sadder the reality becomes.

@thewindupbirdchronicles Actually, in the U.S. the most damaging revisionist history is at the hands of conservatives, who have tried to downplay the uglier aspects of U.S.鈥檚 past. They don鈥檛 want their grandchildren to know about the reality of slavery and the breeding programs some of their ancestors were involved in. The conservatives are the ones even trying to claim that American slavery was a "positive" thing for blacks !
I鈥檝e found the Guardian to be pretty even-handed in other reports.
@Ozymandiaz Actually, since trust is a unique thing, it is up to me.

I see me putting out I don't trust any news organization actually, that there is a bias within every one of them has caused misunderstanding. I'm only calling them a blight on how they create discourse (not that the topics shouldn't be discussed, but they are all driven my revenue). They look upon that angle first. I should have been clearer with my words, but I'm also not surprised those who get heated over news items are barking down my comment without giving a chance to speak. It doesn't lend to actual discussion.
@bijouxbroussard I won't disagree with you. I just feel in this media driven world, using language now chasing what becomes viral we have lost meaningful conversation from all sides of the political spectrum.

The Guardian is balanced for you, in your political viewpoints. The Guardian's mirror mine, I really was trying to state we will never have balanced media solely based off revenue, ever. One could argue, their writers are enslaved to an ideology (like all media outfits).
@thewindupbirdchronicles That is fair. However, it would be good to have the information that informed your opinion.
@Ozymandiaz Maybe, but I decided a long time ago I don't like the conversation or decorum with politics, a long time ago. That it's vile, against what creates dialogue that creates change. That the change will never come from media (with respect things need to be talked about and discussed), but I'm done. You can be stripped of your dignity, you can be cattled in a protest by police, watching an elderly man coming out of a McDonalds who had nothing to do with a protest, or the police overreaction. You can watch his hair follicles stand on end, through his white shirt, while he pleads with police for help. It's nothing compared to what some see, but no news I have ever really read in politic has really given, empathy. To me, politics is an empty path.
