For a few years, I wasn’t just a bartender.
I was the pause between chaos and consequence in a way.
I’d slide a napkin over with a joke, a truth, or just enough silence to let them spill guts.
They always left lighter.
I always stayed ....heavier?
And every night, watching them walk out thinking they were healed,
I’d catch my reflection in the mirror behind the bottles some times and think...
I could fix them.
