In the UK there is a growing trend of making massive open plan kitchens

At the expense of separate rooms. They just absorb two other rooms into the kitchen area and it becomes a kitchen/dining room/sitting room. To me this is like having massive GGG breast implants and no ass, like a watermelon stuck on a pencil 🤔
