Hometown Foods

I posted this a long time ago but we have a new crew so here goes:

I am going home for my high school reunion next year...(just work with me on that date) One of the things I love best about my hometown is the food.

My favorites? Mike Sell and Hussman potato chips, Kahn's hotdogs, Butternut bread and barqs cream soda which is red-i bring all of this home with me.

Restaurants? Frisch's with the hot fudge cake, a little restaurant called Hyde's and Millilo pizza cut in squares.

What are your favorite foods from home?

The best! I grew up in South Louisiana and bring back as much as I can safely carry.

Three or four Rouse's supermarkets within a stone throw from where I was born and easy enough to spend a day or two just roaming their stores and inhaling :)

@Heartlander whoa...are they like Whole Foods?
Heartlander · 80-89, M
@akindheart No, in Louisiana, locally more like a Louisiana incarnation of HEB that's so prominent in Texas. They fit the stores to the locations. So Louisiana Rouse's will carry more sausage brands than you can count. Fish, shellfish, alligator meat, crawfish, etc. Also practically every pepper and hot sauce that you can imagine. Tabasco and Trappey's are Louisiana companies but just the tips of the icebergs.

So going to a South Louisiana Rouse's is like going to a Border town HEB in Texas. The stores fit the people rather than the other way around :)

@akindheart I don't know how far east they go. Mobile for sure, maybe panhandle Florida. West to Houston probably. Is Houston a Louisiana city? Somewhat :)
