I Am Easily Amused

This isn't me picking on Christians. I'm specifically picking on the church at the end of the road I'm on.

Every month they have a snappy slogan posted on a board at the front of the church so drivers can see it and be impressed by their cleverness.

...but they're always awful.

So let's critique the last two signs.

February: The Bible is like a compass. Follow it and you'll go the right way.

Ok. So they don't understand how compasses work. You can't just follow a compass. It isn't a map, you have to know where you're going, and if you do and you also know where that place is in relation to where you are, you can use a compass as a support mechanism to help you get there. So why didn't they just say map?! Or better yet: Satnav. Stay up to date church.

March: Prayer is to a Christian, what training is to an athlete.

Hmmmm. Yeah these two things don't correlate. Training is something you personally do over and over again, you put in the effort, you feel the burn, you focus entirely on yourself in order to become the best version of yourself in your chosen discipline.

Prayer is asking someone else to do the work for you. It's also supposed to be a completely selfless act right? You shouldn't pray for yourself to be buff, or even for your life to be awesome? That seems like the opposite of Christianity. Pray for other people, then go out and work hard at improving yourself instead of waiting for God to turn up and give you a six pack.

I'll probably come back to this when the April sign goes up. It'll be shit too.

Well maybe from your prospective ... but they meant if you use the Bible as your moral and spiritual compass you will go the right way ... duh ! 馃槈

And as far as prayer equaling training . You don鈥檛 get results from a 5 minute workout . Meaning it takes more than just a quick prayer only when you need something to get God鈥檚 attention .

Off course for ANY of this to mean anything to you , you need to have faith and a little education in Christianity .... which obviously you do not. So like a true bigot , since the church puts signs out (clearly intended to benefit Christians ) that youdon鈥檛 understand , your first thought was to belittle , reliducule , and disparage the church and Christians rather than trying to understand it . @TexChik I went to church for years, I know all about it.

I have no issue with Christians generally they're loving, thoughtful people, and I would never judge a person for their beliefs. This church just has terrible signs.
