I Am Easily Amused

This isn't me picking on Christians. I'm specifically picking on the church at the end of the road I'm on.

Every month they have a snappy slogan posted on a board at the front of the church so drivers can see it and be impressed by their cleverness.

...but they're always awful.

So let's critique the last two signs.

February: The Bible is like a compass. Follow it and you'll go the right way.

Ok. So they don't understand how compasses work. You can't just follow a compass. It isn't a map, you have to know where you're going, and if you do and you also know where that place is in relation to where you are, you can use a compass as a support mechanism to help you get there. So why didn't they just say map?! Or better yet: Satnav. Stay up to date church.

March: Prayer is to a Christian, what training is to an athlete.

Hmmmm. Yeah these two things don't correlate. Training is something you personally do over and over again, you put in the effort, you feel the burn, you focus entirely on yourself in order to become the best version of yourself in your chosen discipline.

Prayer is asking someone else to do the work for you. It's also supposed to be a completely selfless act right? You shouldn't pray for yourself to be buff, or even for your life to be awesome? That seems like the opposite of Christianity. Pray for other people, then go out and work hard at improving yourself instead of waiting for God to turn up and give you a six pack.

I'll probably come back to this when the April sign goes up. It'll be shit too.

Those are a bit lame, but not bad enough to be funny. Here's one I saw years ago: "A loose tongue gets into tight places."

Lemme try make one up:

Creationism is like guns. The more it ruins schools, the more the Republicans try to defend it :p
@TexChik hahaha proving my point one post at a time
TexChik · F
@Qwerty14 hardly . It shows how pathetic liberals are . The last thing you libs want is a resolution to the gun issue because then you’ll have no issue to incite and run against . Needless to say you’ll get more done by butting a stump! The 2A isn’t going anywhere . Obama had 162 mass shootings on his watch , yet the libs unhinge only when a republican is in office , displaying the left’s faux concern about children . The only reason Libs worry about schools is for the indoctrination opportunities and that teachers are usually democrats . ( who else thinks spending $80K for a &35K / year job is a good idea ? .
@TexChik I am not a liberal. Liberals actually like guns. I'm a socialist. I think y'all should all get rid of your guns asap.

You keep talking about your second amendment right but you know that law was written 240 years ago yeah? It is a little out of date now. If you really wanna own a revolutionary musket then fine but the founding fathers didn't intend for you to own a semi automatic rifle.

Lastly, you are insane if you don't remember the shit that happened every time there was a mass shooting in Obama's terms. People cried for better gun laws. The difference is Obama looked like he was actually doing something about it.

What is the big deal what they post if you don't go to their Church and do not believe their way?

Prayer for me is to thank my Heavenly Father for the blessing I have in life and to ask him to help me be a better person to other people. It is faith based. I am not asking him to do the work for me. I am asking how I can be better used for his work.

If you get so perturbed by the sign, ignore it. Otherwise you could get upset by a myriad of signs around the town you are in.
bigjohndl · 61-69, M
@CheshireCatalyst I am not perturbed. Just making a statement because you are the one that seems to get upset by what they post on their sign. YOU are the one that has a problem with it and came seeking attention from others by posting it. LOL.
CheshireCatalyst · 36-40, M
@bigjohndl I'm amused, not upset. It's literally in the title of the post.
bigjohndl · 61-69, M
@CheshireCatalyst I guess I misunderstood your post. You did not seem amused by the signs because you said they were awful and then proceeded to critique the messages. And then added that April's message would probably be "shit" too. And you stated you were picking on the Church at the end of the road.

I guess I misunderstood your "amusement" of the signs.

They should write one that says...

"Life is like a box of chocolates. Disappointing and overpriced."
TexChik · F
Well maybe from your prospective ... but they meant if you use the Bible as your moral and spiritual compass you will go the right way ... duh ! 😉

And as far as prayer equaling training . You don’t get results from a 5 minute workout . Meaning it takes more than just a quick prayer only when you need something to get God’s attention .

Off course for ANY of this to mean anything to you , you need to have faith and a little education in Christianity .... which obviously you do not. So like a true bigot , since the church puts signs out (clearly intended to benefit Christians ) that youdon’t understand , your first thought was to belittle , reliducule , and disparage the church and Christians rather than trying to understand it . Nice 👍🏻 🤨
CheshireCatalyst · 36-40, M
@TexChik I went to church for years, I know all about it.

I have no issue with Christians generally they're loving, thoughtful people, and I would never judge a person for their beliefs. This church just has terrible signs.
TexChik · F
@CheshireCatalyst well not everyone is a professional add agency . Geeze !
wickey · 70-79, M
Remember big business needs a hell of a lot of propaganda, so just ignore the crap which is meant for those who can be taken for a long ride.
@wickey Propaganda? How many businesses do you know that use propaganda?
bigjohndl · 61-69, M
Ever think it could be an attempt on their part to inject humor to brighten someones day? Not everyone has a dismal view of life as you must have. Many churches in my area have signs that are humorous.
