Is this statement true?

Its impossible to die of starvation under your own will when you have access to food.

At some point or another your body would go into survival mode. Adrenaline would be releasted and your entire state of mind would change. You would find food at all costs to preserve your life.

It would take a tremendous willpower to overcome that.

Those suffering from anorexia have starved themselves to death before. I think Karen Carpenter did.
GoFish ·
@CrazyChick21 i think some guy's wife on here did too 😐 farsci or whatever his name was
CrazyChick21 · 46-50, F
@GoFish it's a terrible illness.

Not true, people have deliberately starved to death when food is available.
GuyWithOpinions · 31-35, M
@meJess do you know who? Or do you know where i could find research on this idea?
meJess · F
@GuyWithOpinions try temple monks, Buddhists have extraordinary willpower
Jackaloftheazuresand · 31-35, M
@meJess those monks don't go cold turkey, they do that by still ingesting small amounts until they are too weak to even move if they wanted to and then have others continue the process until they die
Completely false, there have been many political hunger strikers that have starved themselves to death for their political convictions

I don’t think it’s true mostly because I actually lived the opposite. I went 43 days without eating and passed out from malnutrition. I woke up with EMTs over me trying to figure out what was wrong.

@jshm2 but thats forced starvation. My question is could you starve under your own will, or would your body naturally struggle to seek food at all cost beyond your own will.
GoFish ·
i'm not sure.. depends on the person's resolve to starve themselves .. most people are not that resolute in the first place
GoFish ·
@GuyWithOpinions there is a distinction but while we are alive our body is under command of our minds: and habits
GuyWithOpinions · 31-35, M
@GoFish until the point of crisis and survival. We become primitive under stress

It could be pain. It could be sorrow / despair / hopelessness . Could be guilt. Lots of emotions would allow someone to starve themselves to death in a room full of food.
GuyWithOpinions · 31-35, M
@AthrillatheHunt my point is that is impossible. You cant will yourself to do that. When you hit the piint of nearly dying your body will seek food regardless of your will.
AthrillatheHunt · 56-60, M
@GuyWithOpinions the mind controls the body. Not the other way around. Strong willed (minded )people can accomplish things we never dreamed of . let’s agree to disagree.
