What does it mean when someone says, "Don't let someone cover your lampshade?" I've never heard this before and was just curious.

Putting a cover on a lampshade used to cause fires due to the incandescent lightbulbs, so you are asking the person not to cause harm to themselves/others.
These days LED lights barely get hot... well, unless they are in your car, those suckers still get hot.
Today's equivalent comment might be "don't park your EV in your garage"
