So I’m curious about this, why do the majority of American schools not require a school uniform?

It seems unnecessarily stressful to have to think about what to wear each day.

Private schools do. In public schools it is seen as a an uneccessary expense and burden on families for clothing that has no function outside of school.
@MethDozer That’s interesting. Because I would have thought uniforms might take some of the financial burden off families. Or take away some of the pressure to wear certain labels etc

@MethDozer As for expense, it is cheaper and you can wear it anytime you like anywhere, not just school.

@maskedbandit Nobody is wearing a uniform outside of work or school. It is an otherwise useless piece of clothing.

@Notladylike That's the otherside of the arguement that it is democratizing and keeps fashion chasing out of the school.

Arguements for both sides are valid.

@maskedbandit You ain't wearing a polo shirt and khakis daily. They get ruined quick. Then you have no uniform.

@MethDozer You think children are born to make fashion statements or to learn or none of the above. 😅
