Violence is a failure to communicate
SweetMae · 70-79, F
@LunarOrbit There is no communication strong enough to stop a rapist when he enters your home with a weapon.

@SweetMae This
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
@LunarOrbit You need two parties to communicate. You have been very lucky if, at your age, you have not been in a situation to realise that.

In many situations, violence results because there is no escape route.

@SweetMae I agree. If he doesnt stop when you tell him to stop…then you have to defend yourself. Defence is not violence. Just like medicine is not a poison if it helps you. (Even tho it can kill you).
I hope that made sense

@Zeusdelight Let me try to explain my thought…Violence is to intentionally hurt someone. Defence is to stop someone from hurting you. The action itself may be violent, but the rational behind it is what defines it as violence.

@LunarOrbit I accept what you have said to an extent. However, defence can become violence as we have seen in the Judicial system where "defenders" have been jailed for using unreasonable force.

Always the safest self-defence is escape or avoidance by mis-direction, not any type of physical aggression.

None of us will know how skilled or desperate an attacker may be.

It is only in Hollywood that a normal person always overcomes an attacker by physical self-defence.

@Zeusdelight I agree. I think the law HAS to differentiate unreasonable force from defence to prevent people from using it as an escape goat to get away with murder. Thats why we have judges….and most times they figure it all out right.
I would do anything to protect myself or my family. I’ll let the courts decide if its reasonable force after.
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
@LunarOrbit Yes, if there was no escape of way of misdirection, I would hope to at least delay the attacker so that my family could escape. I think I would need a very incompetent attacker though:)
