When I was about 18 or so, I went to a three day outdoor music festival and I was sitting in the grass that night eating an ice cream cone. An older girl came up to me and asked if I had a lighter, so I lent her my Zippo. We made friends and exchanged numbers.
The next night she told me she was worried about how rough one of the concerts was gonna be, and then said "but you're punk rock so that probably doesn't bother you." I have never received a compliment so exciting as that. Someone I had just met, who I thought was super cool, had just called me punk rock.
